Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how AeroCartwright (aerocartwright.com) collects, uses, and protects information when you visit this site. AeroCartwright is operated by Eric, an individual based in the United States.

The short version: this site exists to share drone mapping and GIS knowledge. It does not sell your data, run advertising, or track you across the web. The sections below explain exactly what is collected and why.

Information We Collect

Information You Provide Directly

Email newsletter subscriptions. If you sign up for the AeroCartwright newsletter, you provide your email address. That email is stored in Buttondown, the email service provider used to manage and send the newsletter. Subscription date and engagement data (such as whether you opened an email or clicked a link) are also recorded by Buttondown as part of normal newsletter operations.

Contact form inquiries. When you submit an inquiry through the contact form, your name and email address are collected so that your message can be received and responded to.

Information Collected Automatically

Cloudflare. This site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. As part of normal web hosting and security operations, Cloudflare may log standard server data including IP addresses, browser type, referring URLs, pages visited, and the date and time of requests. This data is used for security, performance optimization, and infrastructure purposes. AeroCartwright does not configure or control this logging directly.

Cloudflare Web Analytics. This site uses Cloudflare Web Analytics, a privacy-focused, cookie-free analytics service. It collects anonymized page view data including the page URL, referrer, browser type, device type, and country. No personally identifiable information (PII) is collected, no cookies are set, and no individual visitors are tracked across pages or sessions. This data is used solely to understand which content is useful to readers and how the site is performing.

Google Fonts. This site loads fonts from Google Fonts, a free font hosting service operated by Google. When your browser requests a font file, your IP address and browser information are transmitted to Google's servers. Google's privacy practices for this service are governed by the Google Privacy Policy.

What Is Not Collected

Free calculators. The GSD Calculator and GCP Calculator on this site run entirely in your browser. No data you enter into these tools is transmitted to any server. Your calculations stay on your device.

How Information Is Used

Information collected through this site is used only for the following purposes:

• To send the newsletter you subscribed to, including new articles, tutorials, and site updates
• To respond to contact form messages
• To maintain site security and performance through Cloudflare's infrastructure services
• To render fonts correctly through Google Fonts
• To understand which content is useful through Cloudflare Web Analytics (anonymized, cookie-free, no PII)

Your email address is never sold, rented, shared with advertisers, or used for purposes beyond the newsletter you signed up for.

Third-Party Services

This site uses a small number of third-party services to operate. Each has its own privacy policy that governs how they handle data.

There are no advertising networks, affiliate tracking pixels, social media widgets, or remarketing tools embedded on this site.

Data Processors (GDPR Article 28)

Under the General Data Protection Regulation, the following third-party services act as data processors on behalf of AeroCartwright (the data controller). Each processor handles personal data only for the purposes described below and in accordance with a Data Processing Agreement (DPA).

International Data Transfers

This site is operated from the United States. Some data processors are also based in the United States, which means personal data from visitors in the European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom, or Switzerland may be transferred internationally. The following safeguards are in place:

• Cloudflare, Inc., Google LLC, and Buttondown, LLC are certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, providing an adequate level of data protection as recognized by the European Commission.
• Buttondown, LLC is based in the United States and is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, providing an adequate level of data protection as recognized by the European Commission.

Cookies

This site does not set cookies of its own.

Third-party services may set cookies as part of their normal operation. Cloudflare may use cookies for security purposes (such as bot detection). Buttondown may set cookies if you interact with a newsletter signup form. Google Fonts may set cookies related to font loading.

You can control or block cookies through your browser settings. Blocking cookies will not prevent you from reading articles or using the calculators on this site.

Email Communications

If you subscribe to the AeroCartwright newsletter, you can unsubscribe at any time. Every email sent through Buttondown includes an unsubscribe link at the bottom. Clicking it will immediately remove you from the mailing list.

This newsletter complies with the federal CAN-SPAM Act. Every commercial email from this site will:

• Identify the sender accurately
• Use an honest subject line
• Include a physical mailing address as required by law
• Provide a clear and functional way to unsubscribe
• Honor opt-out requests promptly

Data Retention

Newsletter subscribers. Your email address and subscription data are retained in Buttondown for as long as you remain subscribed. If you unsubscribe, Buttondown retains a record of your opt-out status to ensure you are not re-added inadvertently. You may request complete deletion at any time by contacting eric@aerocartwright.com.

Contact form submissions. Inquiries received through the contact form will be retained only as long as necessary to respond to and resolve the matter.

Server logs. Log data collected by Cloudflare is retained according to Cloudflare's own data retention policies.

Children's Privacy

This site is not directed to children under the age of 13, and AeroCartwright does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. The content on this site covers technical topics in drone mapping and GIS that are primarily of interest to adults and professionals.

If you believe a child under 13 has submitted personal information through this site, please contact eric@aerocartwright.com and the information will be deleted promptly.

California Privacy Rights (CCPA)

If you are a resident of California, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) provides you with specific rights regarding your personal information.

• Right to Know — what personal information has been collected about you and how it is used
• Right to Delete — request deletion of personal information held about you
• Right to Opt Out of Sale — AeroCartwright does not sell personal information, so there is nothing to opt out of
• Non-Discrimination — exercising your privacy rights will not affect how you are treated on this site

To exercise any of these rights, send a request to eric@aerocartwright.com. Requests will be verified and responded to within 45 days as required by law.

Your Rights Under GDPR

If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, you have rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) or equivalent local law.

Legal basis for processing:

• Consent — for newsletter subscriptions, which you can withdraw at any time
• Legitimate interests — for security and infrastructure operations via Cloudflare

Your rights include:

• Access — request a copy of the personal data held about you
• Rectification — have inaccurate data corrected
• Erasure — request deletion of your personal data
• Restriction — request that processing be limited
